Back in Chang Mai

Hi all,
thought it was time I (Gordy) gave this blog thing a go!
The last week has been incredible in so many ways-Can't really believe we only been here for such a short time and done so much! It's only the morning after Sue's last blog so not much new to report. We are all in good health and having a blast. speaking of blasts.. yesterday afternoon Rosa and I walked in to the main 'moat area' of this great old city and participated full bore in the Song Kran water festival (Sue and Finn and older kids stayed at the pool) It was totaly wild. Lovely blonde Rosa was a natural target because the wetter you get and the more water you get thrown on you the better luck you have in the new year!!! So within seconds we were totally drenched. Every car was stopped, the streets gridlocked (all 6 lanes!) and everyone is just going for it with buckets, water guns and hoses. Water comes from the back of cars, the street and everywhere.(We armed with water pistols) There is live music and drinking everywhere-a recipe for disaster you would think-but amazingly everyone is in such good spirits (even the drunk ones being pulled out of the city moat!!!) We only lasted about an hour but it was amazing and the whole family plan to go down for the experience today.
Last night we Tuk Tuked a few kilometeres to the Night Bizzare where there were 1000s of markets (the 'real' rolex and cd variety) Finn brought a Manchester United Jersey for $12 so he happy for life!!!Rosa brought a hair clip that is a kit-kat!
Today we have free time until we board the train back to Bangkok at about 6pm. Don't panic people-we are only visiting the train station and then straight away 3 hours south to the beach of Hua hin.
We are having the adventure of a life time - we all could not be happier with our time in Thailand so far.
I hope all you kiwis are safe and well too and we look forward to catching you soon. We love getting your comments and photos so please keep them coming!!!!
Love to everyone-we miss you all,
Gordy

  3. Hi you lot, nice to see Rosa got to ride on the elephant, at least you know Gordy that there was no chance of the elephant jumping. HAHA. A piece of knowledge that you will now know forever. WOW, you are surely having an amazing time, great to see your picture and hear of your adventures. Only slightly JEALOUS, since I am working hard and all that, actually I think I may be more than slightly jealous. lol. Keep Safe. Love Vic & the Genet clan. xox

  6. Hi Caddie whanau, we are all particulary envious of you today as we all head back to work/school etc. Great hearing all your adventures, I think Rosa is very brave riding on an elephant! Would she do it again? We tramped up to Packhorse Hut in holidays and stayed the night. Took about 2hrs to get to top and kids did really well - Jonty and Ruby;s 1st overnight tramp, gorgeous sunset over Lyttleton. Mac had 1st game football and won 4 nil, apparently we have to travel to Ashvegas for a game. Visited Orana Park saw Kieren and Rosemay! We have tried to put some photos on here but no luck as yet. Had perhaps our last bar-bee on Sat, Tarns and Dave, Nick, Tarf and kids, Kenneth,Lisa and kids here too. We missed you guys!! Popping through Kaiapoi it is strange thinking you guys are not there. Keep having loads of fun and love hearing all the stories. Take care, mckenzie sheat whanau.
Will get the kids organised to write soon.

  7. Hey, thanks for your news! Rosa said she would love to ride an elephant again. Finn and Gordy have been checking out the WUFC site. Finn is missing all the physical activity. Thailand was ok as he swam heaps but here in Japan we are a little bit restricted. Spoke to Mum yesterday and she said the weather has been great - can so easily imagine your barbie :) The Packhorse sounded great! Nice one! Gordy got slightly stressed on Monday thinking about school starting again....I quickly put paid to that! Love to all x Sue x x x x x
